Industrial estate NICE (Nashik Industrial Co-operative Estate) was formed in the co-operative sector in 1962. In the same year, Maharashtra, State Government also responded by declaring MIDC ( Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) Industrial Estate at Satpur village, 7 km from Nashik. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited established unit for production of MIG fighters at Ozar, a village 20 km from Nashik. In 1967 SICOM (State Investment Corporation of Maharashtra) adapted Nashik as its growth center. All these events brought Nashik on the industrial map of India. MICO (German multinational) and ABB (Swedish multinational) established their production units. The industry that came to Nashik was mostly engineering, electrical and pharmaceutical. Crompton Greaves, MICO, VIP, CEAT, Mahindra & Mahindra etc are other important industries. Tourism has been a traditional function of the city. Visitors come to city on auspicious days in large numbers, to have a dip in river Godavari. Godavari is known as a holy river. People assemble in great numbers at Nashik every 12 years.This fair is known as Kumbhamela. Six lane road between Mumbai and Nashik is in fast process and will be in operation within next 1-2 yrs.
The Maharashtra state government has formed the Shirdi Development Authority to recast the Shirdi township on the lines of Tirupati.The makeover plan includes the construction of a mall.The projects will be sponsored by the Shirdi Saibaba Sansthan Trust. MSRDCs managing director Satish Gavai said, We will construct skywalks, footpaths, pedestrian pathways, multi-layer parking lots, ring roads and a bypass road for traffic, which will facilitate pilgrims. MSRDCs chief engineer Subhash Nage said nine gardens will come up in and around Shirdi. The multi-layer car park will be at least ten levels high and the skywalk around the temple will be around 6 km in length. Pedestrian pathways will be constructed around Pimpalgaon Road, ZP Road and Dwarkamai Road..The MSRDC will widen and reconstruct around 25 kms of road in and around the town. At present, motorists have to use the Manmad-Ahmednagar road to travel to Shirdi. The bypass will reduce vehicular traffic in Shirdi.The work on Shirdi-Puntamba railway corridor is in progress. Shirdi Sansthans chairperson and local MLA Jayant Sasane said a businessman, Prem Daryanani has donated 50 acres of land to the Sansthan for setting up a knowledge city.
